One of the greatest and most rewarding aspects of my travels is the opportunity to connect with people from different backgrounds and cultures through the international language of music. I also find it very stimulating to "soak up" the sounds of the different culture's music. It is a great way to learn about different ways of making music while at the same time seeing just how similar it can be.
It is also a great way to make us more informed artists on our own instruments, whether we are trying to play music in another style or even working on pieces we have already played many times.
So I encourage you, when travelling to play a concert or give a master class, to go listen to the music being played in these foreign regions and have fun listening, learning and communicating!
